Conversation On Classmate Reunion Dinner
Settling into the booth in a casual steakhouse restaurant, they order drinks. Eating and drinking were not the main reason for this gathering of old friends though. They wanted to catch up on what each had been doing for the last ten years.
It was hard for them to believe graduation had been ten years ago. Now they were back in their small home town for the reunion. They wanted to get together tonight for a conversation among just the three of them. Tomorrow night the reunion party would be too busy to talk quietly.
Ted began to reminisce about the football, basketball and baseball games he had helped the school to win. He went on talking about the night he saved the game by shooting a basket just as the buzzer sounded. He had had some success on the football team too, making touchdowns as quarterback.
All the girls had wanted to go out with Tony. He and his date were elected prom king and queen senior year. He always teased Ted about the fact that he dated more cheerleaders even though Ted was the big football hero. Ted wasn’t concerned since he had enough girlfriends of his own.
Tim had always been the most easygoing of the trio of friends. He was enjoying himself as they reminisced about long, hot summer days when they hopped on their diamondback bikes and rode over to the local swimming pool. Jumping into the refreshing cool water was always fun after getting all sweaty on the bike trail. After a cool swim and a soda afterwards, they rode back home, joking around all the way.
Tony told a somewhat alarming story about how Jeana, his ex-wife, had cut up his shirts and ties with a knife set they received as a wedding gift. He said she added insult to injury by using a knife they had received as a wedding present. This set all three of them laughing.
Ted and Tim were divorced now too. They told some sad stories too, but none as funny as Tony’s. Tim was the only one who missed his ex-wife. But, he knew it was his fault she left him. He had cheated on her.
They hoped to hook-up with some old girlfriends at the big party the following night. Since none of them wore those confining men wedding bands any longer, it was highly likely that would happen. They wondered out loud who might be bald and who might be fat. They guessed who might have married who. Finishing their drinks, they looked at the menu and began to order. Tomorrow night sounded like it might be a lot of fun.
